Theatre

Jalostamo² is an independent theatre group based in Helsinki, Finland. The group is led by the artistic duo actor Anna Lipponen and lightning designer/ scenographer Petri Tuhkanen. Jalostamo² creates approximately 1-2 theatre productions per year. The artistic leaders invite the director and the rest of the artistic team separately for each production. The group was formed in 2012 and it operated as a collective until 2017. From 2016 onwards international co-productions have been one of its most significant activities.

Jalostamo² creates artistically uncompromised theatre that communicates with its current societal context. The group´s seeks a form to artistic theatre that is not restricted by the boundries of a nation, traditional theatre space or language. Also the Finnish cultural export is one of Jalostamo² ´s central objectives.

  • Petri Tuhkanen, Artistic director

    Tuhkanen (MA) graduated as lightning designer from Theatre Academy (University of the Arts Helsinki) in 2016. His works in the field of theatre lightning range wide from independent works to big-volume international productions. Besides the works for Jalostamo², his designs have been shown in KOM-teatteri, Zodiak, Teater Viirus and in Kotka City Theatre. Since 2015 Tuhkanen has been an associated artist with the acknowledged Estonian contemporary group Theatre NO99. He has also designed large-scale light projects in major Finnish music festivals (Flow, Ruisrock) and events such as Lux Helsinki.

  • Anna Lipponen, Artistic director

    Lipponen (FIA) graduated from the Department of Acting NÄTY (University of Tampere) in 2009. Since then she has worked besides the Jalostamo² productions in city theatres of Helsinki, Kotka, Vaasa and Kuopio. Lipponen portrayed the role of Kaarina Koskela in the film Under the North Star part 2 (Täällä Pohjantähden alla, osa 2) and appeared in the YLE´s TV series Uusi päivä. Besides acting in the Jalostamo²´s productions, she has also worked as the production manager in the group´s creations. Lipponen is also the author of the play Handless, produced in co-operation with Eesti Draamateater and Lahti City Theatre in 2016.

  • Jaakko Lenni-Taattola, Producer

    Lenni-Taattola (MA) graduated from theatre and drama research at the University of Tampere in 2013. He has coordinated many international projects concerning culture exchange. At Susanna Leinonen Company he was in charge of the contemporary dance company´s international sales and marketing. At the Centre for Practise as Research in Theatre T7 (University of Tampere) Lenni-Taattola coordinated many performance technology networks and practice-based research projects. The latest, Theatre & New Technology project was co-coordinated with Riksteatern, the Swedish national stage.
